This is a great opportunity to experience the diversity of spring blooms in the sandsage prairie south of the Arkansas River in southwest Kansas. This foray is a walk-in event (moderately strenuous) and the hike is approximately 1 mile to the main area of interest, however, botanizing opportunities abound during the entire walk. Blowouts, dunes and level-sands areas will be explored. Main walking path is a gravel/sand access road, but loose sand off trail featuring varying grades depending on where you want to explore. Attendees will meet at main office parking area off of Hwy 83 at 9 AM and then rendezvous at the south pasture parking area down the road.
